Why FTIR for Air Monitoring?
line

Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry is an instrumental method that permits simultaneous measurement of infrared absorption frequencies of chemical species in real time. The spectrometer functions by imparting a different modulation frequency to each individual infrared frequency or wavelength. The amplitude of each frequency detected is used to generate the infrared spectrum. Reduction in the amplitude at any specific frequency is the absorption due to a molecular species.

The Benefits of Using FTIR Spectrometers for Gas Analysis:

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers can measure any gas that absorbs infrared radiation, i.e., most compounds

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers can measure VOCs (like methanol, acetone & hexane) & inorganic gases like HF, HCl & NH3

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers can measure up to 30 or more compounds simultaneously

    • Good FTIR Gas Analyzers can measure those 30 compounds in the presence of 30% water and 30% CO2

    • Good FTIR Gas Analyzers can measure these gases below 1 ppm and, in many cases, down to 0.1 ppm or lower

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers can be used for stack testing, ambient air monitoring, or process monitoring

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers produce near-time results

  • High speed FTIR Gas Analyzers can produce nearly instantaneous results (sub sec.)

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers maintain their calibration, so they do not need constant recalibration

  • FTIR Gas Analyzers can monitor multiple different streams without changing hardware configurations, as with
    GC mass spectrometers

  • Well-built FTIR Gas Analyzers can handle significant vibration and temperature changes

The FTIR Specialists at Prism have more than 40 years collective experience in using FTIR gas analyzers for field applications in many different industries. We have traveled extensively all over the world supporting customers throughout Asia, Europe, and North America. We use only the highest caliber instrumentation available – the industry-standard MultiGas™ 2030 from MKS Instruments — and we get the correct data, the first time.

Before you make another expensive gas analyzer purchase, first consult with Prism about the best solution for your gas analysis application. If an FTIR analyzer is determined to be ideal for your needs, we can help you build the methodology that will allow you to measure the gases you are most interested in measuring, saving you a considerable amount of time and money.
