Process control is an ideal application for FTIR spectrometers due to the analyzer’s ability to monitor real-time changes in concentrations of many compounds. This real-time monitoring capability allows an engineer to continuously step a process through many variables to find an ideal set point.

One other point that is often overlooked is that FTIR gas analyzers, although very good at absolute quantitative results, are even better at relative quantitative results. Therefore, if small changes are observed in the concentration of chemical compounds, it would be safe to assume that the process has changed. This is due to the fact that FTIR analyzers work by infrared absorption and this light absorption stays constant at a specific frequency for a gas, a fixed temperature, and pressure.
FTIR gas analyzers can also measure many compounds simultaneously, so only one analyzer is needed to monitor all the chemical parameters in your process.
