Randall S. Fike, Ph.D. Director Analytical and Laboratory Operations
Over his career Dr. Fike has been in leading research and development roles including Manager of GTE-Valenite Corporation's Materials Characterization Laboratories. Dr. Fike has written and implemented Statistical Quality Control and Laboratory Information Management software for laboratory management. He has established laboratory facilities and implemented chemistry control capabilities for the production of carbide-based powders, CVD/PVD coatings, ceramics, cermets, steel slags, ores, and refractories. His expertise includes inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, flame spectroscopy (including AA and molecular emission) flame kinetics, optical emission spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and wet chemistry. Dr. Fike received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA. in 1977. He has spent the last six years in the research and development of air testing systems and gas sample delivery systems. He has designed and developed gas handling and chromatography subsystems to expand and enhance the capability of purge and trap and thermal desorption analysis using GC-MS. Dr. Fike is a member of the American Chemical Society and The American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Martin L. Spartz, Ph.D. Director
During his career, Dr. Spartz has served as associate professor in analytical chemistry with tenure at Central Michigan University. Dr. Spartz was responsible for the design and development of a mobile, open-path FT-IR spectrometer for the EPA. Dr. Spartz received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Kansas State University under Professors William G. Fateley and Robert M. Hammaker. His doctoral dissertation was "Development of a Mobile Spectrometer Laboratory for On-Site Atmospheric Measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry." Dr. Spartz has delivered several presentations and proceedings covering the many facets of remote sensing of toxic air pollutants by applying infrared spectrometry. Since the startup of Prism Analytical Technologies, Inc., his research has focused on improving FT-IR methods and instrumentation for environmental, process, and industrial hygiene application. Dr. Spartz is currently working with On-line Technologies in the development of FT-IR spectrometers for use in Prism's applications for field analysis, person exposure, and process monitoring. He has designed and constructed several FT-IR gas analyzers for industry. Dr. Spartz has 11 refereed publications in the field of infrared spectroscopy.
